Iron gates are classic they work perfectly as the decorative gates as iron fences and gates have been long admired for their elegance, beauty, and imposing looks. Quality ornate handrails can last for decades if they are well taken care of. Like all the other kinds of the gates and fences, they do need to be protected from the rusty elements to prolong their life. There is no denying to the fact that ornate iron fence and gates offer classic sophistication, enhanced security, and unrivaled durability. Maintaining the interior iron gates is not rocket science as long as a little proactive is part of a regime to keep the rust at bay.
Following are a few maintenance tools that you must introduce in your regular routine to keep your gates and fences shiny and long-lasting.
1. A Wire Brush or Scraper
The iron gates end up showing signs of flaking or rust formation, to deal with such absurdity a wire brush is a perfect tool. The steel bristles of the brush can beautifully scrub away any loose debris or paint, particularly in the areas that are hard to reach, such as twisted rods and scrolled areas. However, it can be pretty challenging to get the rounded areas, and in such cases, wire wheel attachment on a drill comes handy.
Apart from these scrapers and brushes, there are a few sandblasters as well that can be used to remove the formation of rust; therefore we recommend if you have any required space, then you should use one. Along with that, flat surfaces are also conducive to electric tools, but if you are old fashioned and wished to continue practicing it that way, you can simply use a wire brush.

These brushes are designed specially to clean the recessed surfaces effectively. However, you must ensure you do not forget to wear a dust mask because breathing in the older paint can be hazardous for your health as it contains lead.
3. Regular Paint Brushes
Applying a thick coat of oil-based metal primer on the iron door is an essential and must taken step to prevent your doors from the rust formation, and for that all you need is a good quality paintbrush. Once you have dried the primer, use another high-quality paintbrush to apply the oil-based metal paint, these are the tools that you must have in your maintenance toolbox.
Apart from this, do not use regular exterior paints for your doors since these paints do not really contain any necessary rust-inhibiting components that DTM paints have.
Dealing with the rust will not be challenging as long as you are dedicated and proactive to its upkeep. Keep your paintbrushes handy, so you will be able to touch up any time with some paint and primer at least once a year in case you come across any scratches.
